Admissions Essay for Castleton College

Topic: How do I know I’m ready for college? What’s my motivation?

I’ve always loved going to school ever since kindergarten. But when I reached secondary school, I began to see and believe that I am able to do anything. Since the 11th grade I’ve been constantly asking myself how college will play out for me and what kind of knowledge and experiences I will be leaving with. But now, upon reaching senior status, my thoughts and inner questions have gone deeper and now their value and reflection on my future has a far greater weight on me than ever before. I have now realized that I am ready to go to college and have gained enough experience in my 12-year schooling career to achieve greatness and success.

My high school career has taught me organization, problem-solving, communication, self-advocacy, teamwork, evolving technology and, most importantly, self-confidence and the inspiration to continue my education. Even when I started secondary school as a freshman, I knew what my career was going to be; computer game programming. And as the years went by, I worked by myself and with teachers to learn what I needed to learn, not only for game programming, but for real-world problems and communication. Even today, as I write this essay, I can see myself joining a large company as a director, or maybe even starting my own business.  No matter what my final decision, I recognize that I may need more knowledge to reach my goal, but I know what I need to learn in order to make my next step in life.
